The new edition of the European Catch-Up Index has been published for a third consecutive year with the report "It’s a Process: Findings of the European Catch-Up Index". The 2013 edition of the European Catch-Up Index offers again its alternative perspective of looking at Europe and presents information for further exploration and deliberation. And as there are three editions of the index, there is already enough comparable data to identify trends.
The Catch Up Index measures the performance of 35 countries – the EU member states, the candidate and potential candidate countries across four categories - Economy, Quality of Life, Democracy and Governance. There are scores for each categor and an Overall Score, composed of the scores for the four categories. As its name suggests, the Catch-Up Index is primarily about the catching-up of the newer EU member states and candidate countries with the older, more developed EU members.
